Hatzilu Rescue Client Assistance Program
The Hatzilu rescue organization delivers free supplementary kosher food to residents in need of food within Nassau County, across all faiths, who are eligible for free food under the guidelines of the NYS Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
Residents who already participate in the SNAP, WIC, TANF, Medicaid, or SSI programs in NYS are automatically eligible for Hatzilu food assistance. Potential recipients should contact Hatzilu Rescue at 516-822-3535 EXT 346 to confirm eligibility and to enroll. Upon the first food delivery the recipient will need to complete and sign a TEFAP Attestation Of Eligibility Form.
In addition, in line with its founding mission to provide financial assistance to Jewish families living in Nassau County who are struggling to meet their essential financial needs, Hatzilu also offers those families modest monthly cash grants. Those grants can continue for as long as the families can demonstrate such needs to Hatzilu. The size of the cash grant is determined by the specific financial needs of the applicant. If qualified, those families can simultaneously receive both food and financial support.
To receive financial support, potentially eligible Jewish families in Nassau County must download, print, and complete the Application for Assistance form shown below. The completed form must be mailed to the Hatzilu Rescue Organization, Executive Director, 45 Manetto Hill Road, Plainview, NY 11803. (If an applicant has difficulty completing and submitting the application, the applicant is very welcome to call Hatzilu Rescue at 516-822-3535 EXT 346 for assistance.)
Upon receipt of the application a member of Hatzilu’s Social Welfare Committee will review the application and may visit the applicant. The entire application and review process, including the visit, are conducted as quickly as possible so that final determinations of eligibility can be completed at Hatzilu’s next occurring monthly Social Welfare Committee meeting.
Furthermore, to provide immediate financial assistance in extreme circumstances, if a client faces an imminent and critical financial hardship as verified by a member of the Hatzilu Social Welfare Committee, an initial immediate emergency cash grant can be issued before the committee holds its regularly scheduled monthly review and approval meeting. This immediate support can be provided as long as three social workers on the committee agree that the emergency need is substantiated.
