Two groups of pre-bar/bat mitzvah students recently visited the Hatzilu warehouse, located in the South Baldwin Jewish Center. The first group was from Temple Avodah in Oceanside with another group from Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre visiting about a week later.  The students brought generous donations of food to be given out to needy families.  The children learned about the work that Hatzilu does and learned how food donations are sorted and shelved before being delivered to clients by volunteer food deliverers.
They learned about food insecurity and about the difficult lives of some of the people whom we serve.
They were given copies of the Hatzilu/Bar/ Bat Mitzvah project and encouraged to choose it as a meaningful mitzvah project.
Max is getting ready for his upcoming Bar Mitzvah.  He has chosen Hatzilu for his mitzvah project. In these pictures he is preparing to deliver food to needy families. He will be collecting food from friends and family to bring to the Hatzilu food pantry.
