Hatzilu is always in need of new volunteers. We are an all-volunteer organization and rely on dedicated people of all ages with varied backgrounds to carry out our mission.

Alfred Nevins Food Warehouse:

Stocking and organizing the food warehouse.
Preparing and delivering pantry packages to assigned clients.
Hosting a food Drive to help restock the shelves of the pantry.

Social Welfare Committee:

Join our group of dedicated volunteers who have a Social Work background. Each member of the Social Welfare Committee is assigned a client and responsibilities include:

Offer a listening ear when a client calls and requests assistance.
Obtain bi weekly updates on the client's situation.
Share your knowledge of social service agencies they can access
Join monthly Social Welfare Committee Zoom meetings to discuss clients being assisted.

About Hatzilu Rescue Organization, Inc.

“Hatzilu” means rescue. We help rescue people in need. We provide kosher food support at least once a month to over approximately 130 families in Nassau County, across all faiths, who qualify under the guidelines of the USDA TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program). These families encompass over 325 adults and children who benefit from our rescue mission. Separating Hatzilu from many other charitable food pantries our group of volunteers deliver food directly to these families. Many of our clients do not have or cannot afford transportation, are too aged, ill, or disabled to travel. This system ensures that food reaches these families on a steady basis and allows for a friendly visit from our volunteer.

At the same time, on a monthly basis we provide needed financial assistance to qualifying Jewish residents of Nassau County who are struggling to meet their basic financial needs because of illness, disabilities, or other serious life changing events.
