Hatzilu Bar/Bat Mitzvah Project
Looking for the greatest local impact for your Mitzvah Project? The Hatzilu Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program is a wonderful option to make a difference.
1. COLLECT: Collect much needed food for our Alfred Nevin’s Kosher Food Panty. Students organize a food drive at their school or synagogue and/or ask their friends/family to bring cans or other nonperishable food goods to the service or party. Food items are then brought by the family to the Kosher Food pantry.
2. DELIVER: At some point just prior to, or just after, the ceremony, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah visits the pantry to prepare food packages and then deliver the packages to a Hatzilu client (along with a Hatzilu volunteer).
3. TEACH: The students would be encouraged to speak about their experience at their service or have it referenced by the Rabbi, or have it written up in a program to be handed out. Additionally, they would be encouraged to speak in their Hebrew School/Day School to recruit others who would follow their example.
4. DONATE: B’nai Mitzvah and their families would be encouraged to make a financial donation to Hatzilu ($180, $500, $1000) out of a portion of their gifts.
5. PRESENT: A representative of Hatzilu will present a certificate at the Bar/Bat mitzvah service which recognizes this mitzvah.
